COOL THINGS TO SEE, DO, & EAT IN NEW ORLEANS
Louie's Juke Joint
Music, art, autographs, weird collectibles, and all things New Orleanian.
Commander's
Palace
Classic old-line (but never stuffy) Creole restaurant, as
seen in LIQUOR.
Casamento's
Best oysters in town. Open September - May only.
Dante's Kitchen
Chef Eman Loubier, formerly of Commander's Palace, has
described his food as "upscale Louisiana fishing camp."
St.
Roch Cemetery & Chapel
One of our most interesting cemeteries. Don't miss the
chapel of votive body parts.
Muse
Conti Wax Museum
The Haunted Dungeon was a big influence on 4-year-old me.
UCM Museum
Actually 45 miles north of New Orleans in Abita Springs,
this extraordinary, witty glimpse into creative obsession
is well worth the drive across the Causeway.
Audubon
Zoo
Flamingos up close, Roseate Spoonbills, Komodo Dragons,
white alligators in a Cajun swamp, and a host of other
fabulous animals in humane but accessible habitats. The
adjacent Audubon Park is wonderful for walking, skating,
biking, golf, birdwatching, or just relaxing in a sylvan
urban oasis.
